Environmental Choice Australia Ecolabel.

The GECA ecolabel has provided architects, building industry professionals, procurement managers and consumers with an independent, reliable and credible way to make environmentally preferred choices since 2001.

The Australian Furnishing Research and Development Institute is an independent technical organisation which provides standards, testing product certification and research for both buyers and sellers of furniture.

The AFRDI standards test the following:

  1. Strength of product
  2. Durability of product
  3. Stability of product
  4. Function / fit for purpose of product
  5. Reasonable finish of workmanship of product

Most certified office swivel chairs in Australia and New Zealand are tested to the requirements of AS/NZS 4438:1997 – Height Adjustable Swivel Chairs. The standard of chair is recognised as being suitable for users up to approximately 110kgs. Each of the chairs will have an individual weight rating where necessary on the relevant products. Chairs accredited with an AFRDI level will suit most commercial needs, chairs are able to withstand heavy duty use.
